Terms of Service

The agreement between you and SHSAT Math Lab. Last updated September 2026.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and SHSAT Math Lab (“SHSAT Math Lab,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your access to and use of the SHSAT Math Lab website, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of them.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

Accounts may be created only by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years of age. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are an adult and, where you create a student profile, that you are the parent or legal guardian of that student and consent to the student's use of the Service under your supervision.

Student profiles exist solely within a parent account. The Service does not knowingly collect email addresses or account credentials directly from children, and children may not create accounts.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account. Each parent account may be associated with one student profile unless we expressly permit otherwise.

3. The Service

The Service provides adaptive mathematics practice, assessments, progress analytics, and related educational content intended to help students prepare for the mathematics section of the New York City Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT).

The Service is currently provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future; any such change will be accompanied by updated terms and advance notice, and will never apply retroactively.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

4. Educational Disclaimer — No Guaranteed Outcomes

The Service is an educational practice tool. All scores, readiness estimates, skill assessments, projected scores, and school-specific comparisons produced by the Service are estimates for informational and planning purposes only. They are not official SHSAT scores, do not predict or guarantee any particular result on the actual SHSAT, and do not guarantee admission to any school.

Cutoff scores shown in the Service are approximations based on publicly reported historical data, which change every year. The New York City Department of Education is solely responsible for the administration and scoring of the SHSAT and for admissions decisions.

SHSAT Math Lab is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by the New York City Department of Education or any specialized high school. “SHSAT” is used solely to identify the test for which the Service provides preparation.

5. Practice Content and Generated Material

Practice questions, explanations, diagrams, and other content in the Service are original works created for SHSAT Math Lab, and may be authored, reviewed, or supplemented with the assistance of automated systems, including artificial intelligence. While we apply verification processes to generated content, we do not warrant that all content is free of errors, and practice content may occasionally contain mistakes.

If you believe a question or explanation contains an error, please report it through the in-app feedback tool. Reported content is reviewed and corrected or removed at our discretion.

Motivational images displayed in the Service may be provided by third-party services. We do not claim ownership of such third-party content, and it remains subject to the terms of its respective provider.

6. License and Acceptable Use

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial educational purposes.

You agree that you will not: (a) copy, reproduce, redistribute, scrape, or create derivative works from the Service's content except for personal use; (b) use automated means (bots, scrapers, or similar) to access the Service or extract content, including to build or train competing products or machine-learning models; (c) reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the Service except as permitted by law; (d) interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; (e) share your account credentials with others or permit use of your account by more than one student; (f) upload or transmit unlawful, harmful, or abusive material; or (g) misrepresent your identity or your relationship to a student.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of this section.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, text, graphics, practice questions, explanations, diagrams, software, trademarks, and logos, is owned by SHSAT Math Lab or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership interest in the Service or its content.

If you submit feedback or suggestions about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, modify, and incorporate that feedback without compensation or attribution.

8. Privacy and Student Data

Our collection and use of information is described in our Privacy Policy. Student practice records belong to the parent account that created the student profile, and parents may delete a student profile and its associated data at any time through Account settings.

The Service is designed so that children do not directly provide personal contact information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information in violation of our Privacy Policy, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE; THAT CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE; THAT PRACTICE SCORES OR ESTIMATES WILL REFLECT ACTUAL SHSAT PERFORMANCE; OR THAT USE OF THE SERVICE WILL RESULT IN ANY PARTICULAR EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME OR SCHOOL ADMISSION.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SHSAT MATH LAB, ITS OPERATORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY RELIANCE ON ESTIMATED SCORES, READINESS INDICATORS, OR PRACTICE CONTENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100) OR THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS CURRENTLY PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, THIS AMOUNT WILL ORDINARILY BE US $100.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SHSAT Math Lab and its operators, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party; or (d) any use of your account, including by a student under your supervision.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice, including for conduct we reasonably believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users or to the Service.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — survive.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court.

You agree that any dispute will be resolved only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

14. General

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force. Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them freely. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and SHSAT Math Lab regarding the Service.

Questions about these Terms may be sent through the in-app feedback tool or to the contact address published on the Service.
